About Manchester City

Manchester City Football Club (Manchester City F.C.), commonly known as "Man City" and nicknamed "the Citizens" or "the Sky Blues", is a football club based in Manchester, England. Its predecessor was "St. Mark's" founded in 1880; it was renamed Ardwick in 1887 and adopted its current name in 1894.

Team History

In 1904, Manchester City won the FA Cup, the first major honor in the club’s history. In the late 1960s, City successively claimed the First Division (now restructured as the Premier League), the European Cup Winners’ Cup, the FA Cup, and the English League Cup. After losing the 1981 FA Cup final, the club went through a period of decline and was even relegated to England’s third-tier league in 1998. In 2002, Manchester City returned to the top flight. In 2008, the club was acquired by the Abu Dhabi United Group from the Middle East. In the 2010/11 season, the team won the FA Cup, the club’s first trophy in nearly 35 years. In the 2011/12 season, Manchester City regained the English top-flight league title after a 44-year wait. In the 2022/23 season, City won the UEFA Champions League for the first time.

On March 7, 2024, in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, Manchester City defeated Copenhagen 3-1, becoming the first English team to achieve 10 consecutive wins in the Champions League.
