Although Real Madrid have not made an official announcement yet, Florentino Pérez has confirmed José Mourinho’s return as head coach during a press conference. According to reports from AS, securing the UEFA Champions League title stands as Mourinho’s primary goal and the main reason for his decision to rejoin the club.

To win the Champions League is indeed the top objective for Mourinho in his second spell at Real Madrid and what motivated him to take on this challenge. During his first tenure from 2010 to 2013, he claimed the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup trophies. However, he suffered the disappointment of reaching the Champions League semi-finals three times in a row without lifting the coveted trophy, a regret that still lingers with him today. Even so, Florentino Pérez has always acknowledged that Mourinho laid a solid foundation for the club’s future success, which later helped Real Madrid win six Champions League titles across eleven campaigns.

Mourinho is set to be officially appointed as Real Madrid’s new head coach, with his presentation ceremony drawing near. The manager is eager to get down to work, knowing that time is limited and only two weeks remain to finalize new signings.

It is reported that Mourinho has submitted his transfer targets to the club, with multiple positions in need of reinforcement: one or two centre-backs, one right-back, one left-back, plus two midfielders including one attacking midfielder and one defensive midfielder.

More importantly, Mourinho has made clear his recruitment philosophy to Real Madrid. The Portuguese coach is not chasing big-name stars. Instead, he looks for players who are hungry for victory, hard-working, ambitious and humble. This is a clear statement of intent. Some of his transfer plans are already taking shape. For instance, centre-back Ibrahima Konaté will join on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract with Liverpool, following in the footsteps of David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger.

Denzel Dumfries has also been linked with the club and emerges as a leading candidate for the right-back role. All in all, Mourinho hopes the new season can kick off as soon as possible to let his revamped squad shine on the pitch once these signings are completed.
