In a recent interview, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the international football ban imposed on Russia since March 2022 will be lifted.

When asked whether he would consider lifting the football ban on Russia, Infantino stated: “We have to do it, absolutely. Because this ban has achieved nothing, and has instead intensified frustration and hatred among people.”
“I believe giving boys and girls from Russia the chance to play football in other parts of Europe will help.”
Infantino also opposes imposing a ban on Israel: “It is clearly stated in our statutes that we should never ban a country from participating in football matches due to the actions of its political leaders. Someone has to maintain these connections.”
When asked about calls for a boycott of the FIFA World Cup in the United States triggered by Trump's policies, Infantino said: "Why football? I believe that in our divided and hostile world, we need occasions where people can come together and share their passion for football."
