Despite having already signed Conor Gallagher, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly still keen on Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones. Jones has been a regular starter for Liverpool this season, but the player himself may be looking for a new challenge.
At present, Tottenham are willing to submit an initial bid of £30 million, while Liverpool are likely to demand a higher transfer fee. This potential deal is worth keeping an eye on, especially considering Liverpool’s growing interest in Adam Wharton. In addition, Tottenham assistant coach John Heitinga is said to be an admirer of both Jones and Andy Robertson.

Although Liverpool beat Marseille in the Champions League in midweek, their performance back in the Premier League has been disappointing. Repeated defensive errors led to them falling behind twice; despite fighting back to level the score tenaciously, they collapsed to defeat in stoppage time. This loss further exposed the team’s severe lack of squad depth—manager Arne Slot was forced to deploy midfield talisman Dominik Szoboszlai as a makeshift right-back, with fringe player Wataru Endo filling in at centre-back temporarily.

Liverpool are currently facing a serious injury and personnel crisis: first-choice centre-back Ibrahima Konaté has temporarily left the team following the passing of his father, Joe Gomez picked up an injury during the game, and with players including Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley and Isaac Mabaya sidelined for a long time, the Reds’ defensive line has been stretched extremely thin.

Despite splashing £450 million on new signings in the summer transfer window last year, the team’s squad structure still has obvious shortcomings, and they missed out on reinforcement targets such as Marc Guehi in the winter window.

On the other hand, vice-captain Andy Robertson is being chased by Tottenham as he is eager to get more playing time ahead of the World Cup, but selling him would carry extremely high risks given Liverpool’s current predicament.

With Konaté’s contract approaching expiration and Mohamed Salah mired in a prolonged goal drought, Liverpool are bound to face a costly squad rebuild this summer. Their top priority for now, however, is to secure Champions League qualification to maintain their financial competitiveness.
