At the pre-match press conference for the FA Cup, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insisted his side “will be better next season”, sparking speculation over his future at the club.

Guardiola said: “We are not a complete team capable of competing with other sides. You know, we are not strong enough. That is the reality – we are going through a huge transition.
“If we can learn faster without overthinking, then you know, we can take our chance in the final month. But I am absolutely certain that next season will be better – I have no doubt about that.”
On having just three days between the FA Cup trip to Newcastle and the clash with Real Madrid, while Real Madrid have an extra day to rest, Guardiola stated: “In England, the EFL Cup matters more than the Champions League. It has been that way from the start, so it is no surprise. The TV broadcasters hold the power when it comes to fixtures – they say ‘Oh we pay a lot of money!’ Well done, great earnings, thank you very much, kind souls. That’s that.”
