Atlético Madrid are entering the final stages of the transfer window, pushing to sign their long-coveted midfielder. Ederson is their top target. The deal is far from easy, but they have held talks with both the player and Atalanta for weeks.

At present, the two sides are still a long way from a final agreement, but they are willing to get the deal done in the coming days if the terms are right.

Ederson is the leading candidate to replace Conor Gallagher. Atlético have been interested in him for two seasons, but the move never materialized due to financial constraints.

Unlike in previous years, time is on Atlético’s side. Ederson’s contract expires in June 2027, and he has informed Atalanta that he will not extend and intends to leave – either in this transfer window or the summer, when he will have just one year left on his deal.

In that sense, Atlético hold the upper hand. They even have a very good relationship with the player himself. Theoretically, the issue lies with Atalanta. The two clubs enjoy a close, almost brotherly relationship.

Recent signings prove this: Musso, Ruggeri, and Raspadori. So Atlético are trying to lower Atalanta’s asking price for Ederson, with the player himself playing a key role in the negotiations.

Furthermore, several first-team players have contacted him in recent days, hoping he will act as a “secret agent” to push the move through. His answer? A resounding yes. He is eager to play at the Metropolitano and will do everything to make this dream a reality. Because his dream is to play in Spain, in Madrid, for Atlético Madrid.

Mateu Alemany, Atlético’s director of professional men’s football, has begun working to make this happen. He has been working behind the scenes for days.

While the list of candidates is almost endless, only one is his “top priority.” The proposal Alemany personally put to him has not only attracted him but also excited him, and he is eager to get involved. Ederson is also ready to embrace the challenge.
