Rúben Neves is hoping to return to the Premier League in next month’s transfer window, putting him on the radar of several clubs including Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The 28-year-old Portugal international has turned down the chance to extend his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, making him one of the most sought-after players when the transfer window reopens on January 1st.

Saudi officials have held a round of contract extension talks with foreign players at the club, but Neves rejected their offer and insisted he will leave.

Al Hilal are already bracing for Neves’ departure in the summer and are considering pushing through an early exit in January to recoup a portion of the £47 million transfer fee they paid Wolves to sign him in the summer of 2023.

Rumours suggest Neves is valued at £18 million, but given the current situation and the significant leverage held by potential buyers, a deal could be struck for far less. The midfielder, who has earned 63 caps for Portugal, is eager to secure a spot in his country’s squad for next summer’s World Cup.

As an experienced Premier League defensive midfielder with a relatively low price tag, Neves represents an attractive prospect. West Ham United, managed by his former Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo, are also regarded as potential suitors.

However, given his impressive and consistent performances over six seasons at Molineux—making 253 appearances and scoring 30 goals—he is likely to draw interest from Premier League heavyweights.

Manchester United are clearly the ideal destination for Neves, with his compatriot Rúben Amorim currently struggling with midfield issues. With his ability, Neves could slot straight into the first team next month—in United’s own words, a plug-and-play signing option.
