According to Bloomberg reports, United Arab Emirates officials have warned that an adverse ruling for Manchester City over the 115 charges could harm bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

Manchester City is awaiting a verdict from an independent commission regarding 115 charges of breaching Premier League financial rules, with the related investigation having lasted four years.

Citing two people familiar with the matter on Saturday, Bloomberg reported that UAE officials have issued a warning: should the club receive an unfavourable ruling, the recently‑improved bilateral ties between the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom may suffer damage.

The report notes that this highly‑anticipated ruling will present British Prime Minister Andy Burnham with a sensitive political and diplomatic test.

At present, his government is working to expand investment ties with the United Arab Emirates and attract Emirati capital to revitalise the British economy.

Given Manchester City’s great importance from the Abu Dhabi side and the scale of UAE investments in the United Kingdom, the club’s fate may disrupt this diplomatic process.

If Manchester City is found guilty, it may face heavy fines, being stripped of championship titles, and in the most severe scenario, expulsion from the Premier League.
