Kobbie Mainoo spoke about his inclusion in the World Cup squad and expressed special thanks to Manchester United manager Michael Carrick.

In the early stages of this season, Mainoo had limited opportunities under Rúben Amorim, accumulating just 302 minutes of playing time throughout the campaign and failing to start a single Premier League match. Since Carrick returned to Old Trafford as manager in January this year, Mainoo has gradually re-established himself as an important member of United’s midfield. He missed only one of the 17 Premier League matches Carrick oversaw, helping United finish strongly at the end of the season, securing third place in the Premier League and qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Now, Carrick has officially been appointed as Manchester United’s permanent manager, signing a contract until 2028. Commenting on Carrick’s permanent appointment, Mainoo said: “Obviously, we are all absolutely delighted. Right from the start, we have fully supported the manager. Under his leadership, the team has played many fantastic matches. I also really like the way he manages the team and how he has handled me personally.”
When asked if he also had Carrick to thank for his World Cup squad selection, Mainoo replied: “Of course, and I have already told him personally how grateful I am. Because if he hadn’t given me the chance to play, I wouldn’t be here now, so I will always be thankful to him.”
