Bayern Munich's sporting director Christoph Freund has stated that Jamal Musiala is facing psychological pressure due to his repeated absences from the team.

Since the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 away match against Atalanta, Musiala has been forced to suspend his playing duties due to pain reactions in the surgically treated area of his left ankle. He will also miss Germany's upcoming friendly matches against Switzerland and Ghana.
In July 2025, Musiala suffered a fractured fibula and multiple ligament injuries, followed by a seven-month rehabilitation period. However, just two months after his return, he experienced pain in his surgically treated leg and had to be sidelined once again. While this situation is not uncommon, Freund revealed that these repeated absences have still taken a psychological toll on the player.
Freund made these remarks after Bayern's 4-0 home victory over Union Berlin in the Bundesliga: “It's not easy for Jamal right now because he keeps encountering these minor setbacks.”
Musiala's last appearance for the German national team was on March 23, 2025, in the second leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals against Italy, which is now a year ago. For an ambitious player like Musiala, who is known for his somewhat impatient personality, his current situation is far from ideal.
The German international himself revealed not long ago: “I've been doing a lot of extra training to make my foot feel more flexible, but some days it still feels a bit stiff.”
According to reports, the pain is mainly caused by the tendons that were injured in the summer of 2025. Journalists have learned that as a result, he can currently only engage in indoor stationary cycling training and light basic recovery exercises under the guidance of rehabilitation coaches.
Nevertheless, Freund stated: “Musiala is on a very good path, and this has indeed been a difficult injury to overcome. We communicate with him frequently, and he maintains close contact with our medical department and coaching staff. I believe he is in a very stable state and is now looking forward to the next two or three months.”
It remains uncertain whether Musiala will be able to make his comeback in Bayern's next league match against Freiburg after the international break. Head coach Vincent Kompany recently expressed his hope that Musiala can return as scheduled, but everything should not be rushed. What is clear is that Musiala is determined to regain his top form in April, regardless of the circumstances, so that he can join Bayern in the crucial stage of the championship race on time and avoid being troubled by foot problems when participating in the World Cup.
