Arsenal are plotting a summer move for Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon, and are currently leading the race ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United. Arsenal are looking to complete the deal for around £75 million to £80 million, while Newcastle have set a £95 million asking price for the England international.

The 25-year-old Gordon has two years remaining on his contract with Newcastle. Two years ago, he came close to joining Liverpool, only for the deal to collapse at the final hurdle. Despite Gordon recently stating publicly that he is happy at Newcastle, sources have indicated that he could leave the club this summer if they receive an acceptable offer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has long been an admirer of Gordon, having tracked him closely during his time at Everton. The Gunners are looking to strengthen their left flank, a move that could see Gabriel Martinelli depart the club. Arteta also values Gordon’s versatility, with the forward having recently deputised as a centre-forward under Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

Gordon has endured an inconsistent run of form this season. Despite his patchy displays, he is still expected to be named in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad for next month’s home friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, and is in contention to feature at this summer’s World Cup.

Last summer, the club handed Arteta a £250 million transfer budget, taking his total spending during his tenure to over £1 billion. The Spanish manager faces immense pressure if the club fail to end their 22-year wait for a Premier League title, but the club’s board still plan to back him with further investment this summer.

In addition, Arsenal could see further squad changes this summer. Christian Nørgaard, who joined the club from Brentford for £10 million last summer, is yet to make a Premier League start, and has seen his game time limited by the impressive form of Martín Zubimendi, prompting him to seek a transfer. Ben White is also available for a potential move, as he looks to secure more consistent first-team minutes.
