Previously, Oke Göttlich, Vice President of the German Football Association (DFB), called for an open debate on the possibility of boycotting the 2026 FIFA World Cup USA-Canada-Mexico. On Monday, at the German Football League’s New Year’s Reception in Frankfurt, Bernd Neuendorf, President of the DFB, remained firmly opposed to the current discussions about a World Cup boycott. He stated that the debate is completely inappropriate and ill-timed at this juncture.

Neuendorf said the DFB Presidium will still discuss the issue pushed forward by Vice President Oke Göttlich this Friday. Regarding US President Donald Trump’s policies, the DFB holds that "it is difficult to assess, and we leave this matter to be handled by politicians".

On whether he would advise fans to travel to the US for the tournament

Neuendorf refrained from giving a clear stance: "Every fan must first make their own decision with the support of the federal government. Politicians must assess the situation and provide advice to people who intend to travel to the US for the matches."
