Aston Villa has reached an agreement with Juventus over the loan of Douglas Luiz.

Under the terms of the deal, the Premier League club holds an option to buy the Brazilian midfielder at the end of the season for €25 million (around £21.7 million) plus add-ons. The move will also terminate his current loan contract with Nottingham Forest.
The 27-year-old Brazil international will complete the final stages of his medical examination on Wednesday before finalizing the formal transfer. This switch will see him return to the club where he made over 200 appearances between 2019 and 2024.
Chelsea had previously considered signing the player on loan, but decided against advancing with a move after making initial enquiries. Aston Villa is currently facing a severe shortage of midfield options and is actively pursuing reinforcements: Youri Tielemans suffered an ankle injury in the second half of Sunday’s victory over Newcastle United and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period.
According to The Athletic, Boubacar Kamara will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, while club captain John McGinn is also set to be out of action for six weeks. Since being loaned to Nottingham Forest by Juventus earlier this season, Luiz has made just 8 Serie A appearances, having sustained an early hamstring injury.
Luiz moved from Aston Villa to the Italian giants in the summer of 2024 for €50 million plus €1.5 million in add-ons, but failed to secure a regular starting spot in his debut season, completing the full 90 minutes on only two occasions. Currently, Aston Villa sits third in the Premier League after 23 matches, level on points with second-placed Manchester City.
