During today's friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine, 34-year-old Danish veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen suddenly clutched his chest, collapsed and lost consciousness without any physical contact. He was then carried off the pitch on a stretcher under the escort of players from both teams and rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, and the match was abandoned right away. It is reported that Eriksen is now in stable condition and out of danger.

This incident reminds people of the terrifying scene at the UEFA European Championship five years ago. On 12 June 2021, in the first round of the European Championship group stage between Denmark and Finland, Eriksen collapsed and lost consciousness with no contact shortly before the end of the first half.

After medical staff rushed onto the pitch, Danish players spontaneously formed a circle to build a "wall of life" around Eriksen, aiming to protect his privacy and avoid interfering with the rescue. He regained consciousness after on-site first aid and was sent to

hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, medics seized the golden rescue window for cardiac arrest, and Eriksen survived the near-death experience. He has had to live with an implanted cardiac defibrillator ever since.

As Serie A bans players with implanted defibrillators from playing, Eriksen negotiated to terminate his contract with Inter Milan in December after the incident.

In January 2022, Eriksen made his comeback to football and signed with Premier League club Brentford. He joined Manchester United in July the same year. After three years with Manchester United, he moved to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, but failed to help the team avoid relegation.
