In this round's blockbuster Serie A clash, Inter Milan beat Juventus 3-2.
After the match, Giorgio Chiellini and Comolli spoke to Camel Live and attended the press conference together.
Juventus already realized a mistake had been made at half-time: Bastoni committed a dive, which should have resulted in his second yellow card, but instead the booking was wrongly given to Kalulu.
Chiellini:“It wasn’t just us who noticed. What happened tonight is unacceptable. It’s hard to talk about football at all, which is why the two of us are standing here today, not Spalletti. We are united – the club’s owners, the management, the coach, the players, and I believe all the fans – and we want to say: what happened today is unacceptable.”
“This was supposed to be a showcase for Italian football to the world, but it was ruined by such a hasty and inappropriate decision. This is yet another problem, and it’s not just about us. We talk about these issues every week. The current rule system is flawed, because it’s unacceptable that such a mistake cannot be corrected by the rules. There are four officials on the pitch, and they should have found a way to prevent this.”
“The whole system is broken, that’s obvious. We’ve tried to push for change in a constructive way since the start of the season, and we’ve now reached a point of no return – everyone can see it and everyone is saying it.”
How do you feel right now? How will you get over tonight
Comolli:“Juventus lost three points, but Italian football lost far more than that – what happened on the pitch tonight was a real injustice.”
What happened at half-time? Was there an argument with referee La Penna? Images have leaked…
Chiellini:“There was no argument at all. But I think you all understand that such a decision is unacceptable. Everyone noticed it, and maybe they noticed it too. I don’t understand why they didn’t reverse the decision, or how they could carry on with the match afterwards.”
“They were ashamed and had nothing to say, so there was no real communication. Under these circumstances, it’s hard to talk about anything else – whether Juventus played well, had shots, none of it matters anymore.”
What message does Juventus want to send?
Comolli:“First, to the fans. We are sorry, because today we could not compete against Inter under fair conditions due to this refereeing mistake.”
“Second, we want to make it clear: the whole of Juventus is united, from the owners, the Agnelli family, to all the management, the coach and the players. We will not give up.”
In terms of performance, Juventus showed great unity. You played an excellent game, and Juventus are coming back.
Chiellini:“Yes, we’re moving in the right direction, we’ve been saying that for a long time. But under these circumstances, it’s hard to talk about football. From tomorrow, the coach will get back to work, because we have another match in 72 hours. There were definitely a lot of positives in the game – up until the 90th minute, the goal, and other aspects. But when you look back, it’s hard to discuss the match or the three points we lost, because of everything that has happened since the start of the season.”
“We’re standing here tonight because there is nothing left to say about football itself. From tomorrow, the coach will prepare for Tuesday’s match against Galatasaray – that’s his job.”
