According to an Iranian diplomat, the Iran national team is only allowed to enter the United States on match days throughout the World Cup and is required to leave the country on the same day. This rule will bring tremendous travel fatigue to the team.

Abolfazl Pasandide, Iran’s Ambassador to Mexico, said on Saturday that the delegation has been notified they must enter and exit the United States on each match day. “We will arrive in the morning and have to leave the same day,” he remarked. All three of Iran’s group stage matches will be held across the United States, while the team’s base camp is located in Tijuana, Mexico, near the US border.

Iranian players have already been granted US visas. However, Iran’s state television reported on Saturday that 15 members of the entire delegation have been denied visas. Specific cases and the identities of the affected personnel have not been disclosed. Iran’s Embassy in Turkey previously issued a strong criticism, stating that the United States has escalated discrimination against the Iranian team to an extreme level.

Iran’s closest group stage venue is Los Angeles, roughly 230 kilometres away, where the team will take on New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21. Their third group match will be against Egypt in Seattle, a city over 2,000 kilometres away, on June 27. The Iran national team departed for Spain on Saturday and will continue their journey to the base camp in Mexico afterwards.
