Liverpool will not sign Geertruida in this winter transfer window.

It is reported that Liverpool will abandon the originally planned deal to sign the Dutch defender Geertruida. Although the club was ready to push forward with the transfer and the player himself was eager to join, there were complex issues in the multi-party coordination of the deal, which was ultimately deemed too difficult to execute.

Under such circumstances, Liverpool are not expected to seek a replacement before the winter transfer window deadline. However, the Reds have joined the race for Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet, viewing him as a potential summer transfer target, and the young centre-back is also a target for Chelsea.

Geertruida is currently on loan at Sunderland, with RB Leipzig as his parent club. All parties had previously discussed the possibility of terminating the loan agreement to facilitate the player's move to Anfield. This potential deal required RB Leipzig to first terminate the existing loan contract, followed by Liverpool needing to reach an agreement on terms with both the Bundesliga club and Sunderland, while Sunderland would seek a replacement and demand compensation for the player's departure.

Liverpool had other options to strengthen their defense, including signing Denzel Dumfries from FC Inte Milan, and even explored using midfielder Curtis Jones as a trade chip, but this plan is now considered extremely unlikely.
