Luis Enrique will reject the offer to manage Manchester United and sign a new contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain. As the Red Devils search for a permanent head coach, they have listed the Spaniard as one of their primary targets, with reports stating that Manchester United representatives travelled to Paris to hold talks with the former Barcelona manager.

His current contract runs until the end of the 2026-27 season, and he led Paris Saint-Germain to win the UEFA Champions League title last season. There are signs that Manchester United attempted to persuade him not to sign a new deal. However, it is understood that he deems taking over Manchester United not the right project for him, and he also has reservations about managing a club that may miss out on the Champions League next season.

The 55-year-old manager has been in discussions with PSG sporting director Luis Campos over a new contract that will keep him at the Parc des Princes until 2030. Enrique has a close relationship with Campos, who has just put pen to paper on his own contract extension.

The news is a blow to Manchester United owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family, with Ratcliffe known to hold Enrique in high regard and view him as one of his top targets. Michael Carrick has taken charge of the team as interim manager, and the club's hierarchy is looking to name a full-time head coach this summer.

The Old Trafford management hopes to find a candidate who can handle the immense pressure and expectations that come with managing Manchester United, and Enrique undoubtedly boasts a wealth of top-level coaching experience. He won nine major trophies during his tenure at Barcelona, including the 2015 Champions League title, and has since claimed ten trophies with Paris Saint-Germain – including victory in Europe's top club competition last season.

When he eventually leaves Paris Saint-Germain in the future, he is inclined to take charge of Barcelona for a second time, rather than move to any other club.

For Manchester United, Carrick will become a contender for the permanent role if he can secure the team's Champions League qualification, while England manager Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti are also in the frame.
