PSG legend Jérôme Rothen recently stated that Paris goalkeeper Arnaud Chevalier is going through a "tough period", due to the excellent form of the club's second-choice goalkeeper Matvei Safonov.

Paris manager Luis Enrique had previously publicly stated that he has "absolutely no problem" rotating goalkeepers for the team. In response to this, Rothen said: “The stability of the goalkeeper position is crucial to a team's success, as we saw with Gianluigi Donnarumma before.”
“I am extremely disappointed with Chevalier's ability to adapt. He is struggling to fit in with the current squad. He has numerous weaknesses, which is why Safonov has been given opportunities. Safonov was the second-choice goalkeeper from the start. But at this crucial stage, the head coach will grow tired of Chevalier's inconsistency.”
“Enrique started Safonov in the midweek Champions League game, which surprised everyone. And Safonov put in an outstanding performance. Paris Saint-Germain's victory in the Intercontinental Cup is credited to him. His displays in the games before that were also reassuring. He can calm the defenders down, a trait Chevalier does not possess.”
“I think Chevalier must adjust his mindset right now and strive to make significant improvements. If Safonov had not gotten injured, he would have continued to play. If Enrique is satisfied with Safonov's performances, it is only natural for him to keep using the Russian keeper. Once Safonov returns to fitness, he should get his chance back.”
"As things stand, Chevalier is not ready yet. He only had two touches of the ball in the Coupe de France match against Paris FC. He needs to adapt to the team and his teammates' style as soon as possible. His own mindset also needs to be properly adjusted, otherwise he will have a really hard time," Rothen said.
