Mehdi Taj, President of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in an interview with Iran's Mehr News Agency, reaffirmed that Iran has no intention of boycotting the 2026 World Cup, and the Iranian national team squad will be announced soon.

Regarding Trump's previous remarks that "Iran is not advised to participate in the World Cup for safety reasons," Mehdi Taj stated: "Trump's remarks are purely foolish. The World Cup organizers have signed at least seven or eight documents to ensure the safety of players and staff of participating teams, and it is completely out of his own foolishness that the President of the United States made such remarks."

Mehdi Taj said: “The national team's preparation plan is progressing smoothly, and we will play two warm-up matches in Turkey. The national team squad for this international match window will be announced by the head coach today or tomorrow. We have no intention of boycotting the 2026 World Cup; we will participate in this tournament.”
