Inter Miami beat D.C. United 2-1 away in Gameweek 3 of the MLS today. After the match, Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano gave an interview.

Mascherano first said: “The standards we set for ourselves matter far more than any external factors. This is a demanding club, and we are a team with high expectations of ourselves. That is why we will keep competing game by game.”
The match attracted a record 72,026 fans to the stadium, setting a new home attendance record for D.C. United. Mascherano added: “It’s wonderful in other ways too. This stadium was full, and football is attracting more and more fans in the United States. Obviously, Messi’s arrival has been a key factor.”
Messi scored a goal in this match, and he has now played 1,140 professional games and scored 899 goals. Mascherano noted: “Everything Messi achieves has become ordinary, and sometimes when things come naturally, they can seem unremarkable.”
Mascherano also stated: “I believe a team needs to keep improving, and we will certainly not rest on our laurels. We always strive to get better, help the players improve every day, and make the whole team stronger.”
Finally, Mascherano said: “We need to finish today’s game in a better way. It’s not that we faced difficulties in the final stages, but it felt strange for us to lose control of the game. We are a team that tries to dominate matches. Of course, you could see we were not happy when we failed to do that.”
