Borussia Dortmund officially announced that the club has formally completed the contract extension with captain Emre Can, and the new contract will run until 2027.

According to previous reports from multiple German media outlets, despite the player suffering a season-ending serious injury, the club still chose to offer this contract extension, expressing their trust and recognition through practical actions.

Regarding his feelings about the contract extension, Can himself stated: "Immediately after the match, I received messages from Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl saying they wanted to support me. This means a great deal to me. I don't think this kind of thing happens very often in this industry nowadays. Therefore, I am extremely grateful and very happy to be able to play here for another year. I will work hard to recover and ensure I return in good health. I believe I will still be able to contribute to the team then. I think this is a great day for Emre, and for us as well."

"I can say that I have never experienced such a serious injury in my entire career. I must say that I have immense respect for all injured players who have undergone surgery. Every word of encouragement really helps, so I am very grateful to everyone."

"When I had to be substituted on the field, the South Stand (Yellow Wall) already started chanting my name. Yes, I was certainly moved at that moment because I have been playing here for several years. Even now, after more than six years, I can say that I am a complete Borussia Dortmund man. I am from Frankfurt, that's true. But deep down in my heart, I am also a Borussia Dortmund man, and I am extremely proud to be able to play for this club."

Borussia Dortmund's general manager Lars Ricken stated: "Emre has been our captain for many years, not only on the field but also off it. He is crucial to us. He is a fighter and a leader. Even when things don't go well, he always manages to bounce back. I think that's exactly what we want to see at Borussia Dortmund."

“He will return to the field wearing the yellow and black jersey next season. We announced this earlier and received a huge amount of positive feedback from fans and club staff. I think this also shows how much everyone values him, so we are certainly very happy that he will once again wear this jersey and compete on the field next season.”
