According to Sky Sports, the CEO of U.S. Soccer has stated that the United States, as a co-host of the World Cup, is “fully supportive” of Iran taking part in the tournament.

Reports state that U.S. Soccer CEO Batson told Sky Sports: “FIFA President Infantino said last weekend that he wants a safe and secure World Cup with all teams involved. We certainly fully support that.”
Asked about the possibility of Iran facing the United States later in the competition, Mr. Batson said: “We have played Iran a few times at the World Cup. Just like any of the other 47 teams we could meet, our goal is to win the match. We are ready to do that.”
“Our team wants to win — that is their focus. They hope as many Americans as possible will support them, stand behind them and cheer for them.”
“Of course, our players are human beings. We all have our own beliefs and things we care about. But at heart, they want to win. That is why they are here. They want to represent U.S. Soccer with pride and inspire the next generation.”
On the appointment of Pochettino, Batson said the USMNT head coach is “totally focused” on winning the first men’s World Cup title for the country.
“When we hired Pochettino, we knew he was a popular coach, and he remains popular and will be for years to come. Having worked with him now, I fully understand why.”
