Manchester City loaned their young Argentine midfielder Maximiliano Echeverri to Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen this summer. However, the 18-year-old has had limited playing time in the Bundesliga, making only 11 appearances with just 3 starts. Earlier, Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso announced that Echeverri would return to Manchester City early in the winter transfer window.
In an interview with Camel Live, Echeverri’s agent Enzo Montepaone shared his views on the related topics.
Montepaone said: “The early recall was Echeverri’s own wish, not Manchester City’s. Next, I will meet with the club hierarchy to discuss the direction of his future development. What is certain is that he will continue his football career in Europe. Currently, two teams have shown interest in Echeverri—Girona FC is the most concrete option, but Villarreal CF cannot be completely ruled out.”
"Echeverri needs more playing time because he hopes to represent the Argentina national team at the World Cup. He has a deep affection for and strong identification with Club Atlético River Plate. It was at River Plate that he almost developed into an excellent player and shaped a good character. So he has always wanted to return to River Plate, but this wish cannot be fulfilled for now because Manchester City is unwilling to loan him to a South American club."
